Healthcare

SoftMed has been enhancing Tanzania’s healthcare sector since 2008, providing technology, expertise, and comprehensive services from digital transformation to diagnostic support.

Tanzania’s healthcare sector is evolving fast, and SoftMed has been part of that evolution since 2008. If you are a national referral hospital, a regional clinic, a private health facility, or an international organization operating in Tanzania, we bring the technology, equipment, expertise, and hands-on support needed to strengthen your operations and improve patient outcomes.

Our work in healthcare spans digital transformation, diagnostic supply, laboratory services, and medical consultation, making SoftMed one of the few partners in East Africa that can deliver across the full spectrum of healthcare needs, from system design to specimen analysis.

1. Health Information Systems & Digital Transformation

SoftMed designs and implements Health Information Systems (HIS) that modernise how patient data is captured, managed, and shared across a facility or health network. Our digital health solutions are built for Tanzanian realities, scalable, secure, and designed to work at every level of the health system.

We help healthcare institutions:

  • Assess operational gaps and develop ICT roadmaps for sustainable transformation.
  • Implement end-to-end digital health ecosystems tailored to local and regional needs.
  • Train clinical and administrative staff on new systems to ensure adoption that lasts.
  • Achieve compliance with medical data and security standards critical for accreditation.

With a history of implementing projects alongside partners including the Ministry of Health, USAID, GAVI, and FHI 360, our digital health work has contributed to systems that serve thousands of patients across Tanzania.

3. Histopathology & Microbiology Laboratory – Arusha Campus

SoftMed operates its own in-house diagnostic laboratory at our Arusha campus, offering specialist laboratory services to healthcare facilities, clinicians, and patients across the Northern Tanzania region and beyond.

Our lab exists to close a critical gap: access to reliable, specialist diagnostic services that many facilities in the region cannot perform in-house. By offering these services directly, we help clinicians get the answers they need faster and closer to home.

Histopathology Services

Our histopathology unit processes and analyses human tissue specimens to support the diagnosis of disease, including the detection and classification of cancer. Clinicians and facilities can refer specimens for:

  • Tissue biopsy processing and microscopic analysis.
  • Surgical pathology reporting.
  • Cancer and tumour classification and grading.
  • Histological examination to confirm or rule out disease.

Accurate tissue diagnosis is foundational to effective treatment planning. Our team delivers reliable, well-documented pathology reports with the clinical detail that physicians need to act with confidence.

Microbiology & Culture Services

Our microbiology unit provides culture-based diagnostic testing to identify bacterial and fungal infections, paired with antimicrobial sensitivity testing to guide appropriate treatment choices.

  • Bacterial culture and organism identification.
  • Antimicrobial sensitivity testing (AST) to guide prescribing decisions.
  • Fungal culture and analysis.
  • Clinical specimen processing from referring hospitals and clinics.

We accept specimens from hospitals, clinics, and, where appropriate, directly from patients. Results are communicated securely and within agreed turnaround times.

Who Can Use Our Laboratory

  • Hospitals and clinics are referring patient specimens.
  • Clinicians requiring specialist histopathology or microbiology reporting.
  • Patients in the Northern Tanzania region need specialist lab analysis.
  • Research institutions and health programmes require consistent, documented results.

Lab is located at SoftMed Arusha Campus, Njiro, Nalopa. To refer specimens or enquire about services, contact: info@softmed.co.tz or call +255 (0) 659 628 803.

4. International Medical Consultation – Coming Soon!

Tanzania is rapidly becoming a preferred destination for international patients seeking quality, specialised medical care in East Africa. • End-to-end patient navigation. From first contact through to follow-up care, we guide foreign nationals and expatriates through every step of their healthcare journey in Tanzania.
  • International insurance coordination. We work with international health insurance providers to support documentation, pre-authorisation, and claims processes.
